Let the fiesta begin!

Three members of the Tamez family had graduated. Two from high school and one from university. These life changing accomplishments deserved a proper celebration. On June 15, 2019, three graduates united for the party of the year. These pictures capture the process of setting up for a party full of laughter, food, music, and love.

Over 80 chairs were brought in for the party. We were expecting over 70 people and wanted to have enough in case more people arrived.

My mom was the host of the party. She prepared for months, collecting decorations and carefully planning every aspect of the evening. Once the day came, she put all of my family members to work and we began decorating the front and back yard.

Flags were hung up from the roof and draped to the fence to capture the latino spirit and to bring the backyard to life.

Tablecloths were carefully cut and taped for the perfect fiesta decorations. Once the backyard was done, we hurried inside to finish setting up the inside of the house.

The finishing touches were added to the entrance of the house. We finished decorating and it was time for the fiesta to begin.

Tejano music blasted from the speaker into the backyard that began to fill up with people from our family. It was a family reunion with uncles, aunts, brothers, and sisters that hadn’t seen each other in months, even years.

Desserts lined the table inside as eager eyes longed for a taste.

Before anyone had a chance to grab a cupcake, my mother passed out the first appetizer of the night which was fruit cups. After the fruit cups came nachos and shortly after that came candy bags.

If the guests weren’t already full from the appetizers, they had an opportunity to eat freshly made tacos. The line circled around the house and into the backyard. No one could resist the smell of tacos and onions being grilled.

The guests were satisfied and so were the graduates. The night ended as soon as it had started. Time flew by so fast. No one wanted to leave. But eventually they did. The fiesta was a success.
